Berlin Exhibition: Rock the Block
I love the work of Berlin based curator Adrian Nabi and I am happy to have been able to contribute to his most recent show.
Jeder der Berlin kennt, kennt ihn. Er wurde besungen, gefilmt, bemalt, bewundert von Millionen. Hunderte Leben und arbeiten in ihm: Der Block zwischen Mariannenstrasse, O-Strasse, Adalbert und Skalitzer ist der lebende Kern von Kreuzberg 36. Ein komplexes und scheues Wesen, eine soziale Skulptur.
Für eine Nacht und einen Nachmittag öffnet sich der Block. Videos an den Wänden, Kunst im 3.Hinterhaus, Graffiti im Copy Shop, Malen am Stinky Corner, Rollerdisco im SO36, Wrestling im Festsaal Kreuzberg; da ist was hinter dem Fischladen und der Bibliothek, im Merkezi und beim 36 Boys Shop. Alles hängt zusammen. Tauch ein und erlebe, dieser ganze Block ist ein Kunstwerk. Und jetzt feiert er sich. Rock the Block.
In Kooperation mit dem Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien bieten am Abend des 2. und Nachmittag des 3. Oktober 2012 dutzende Veranstaltungsorte Kunst, Performances,Workshops und Parties. Drinnen und Draussen, im, am und um den Block herum.
On Tuesday the 2nd and Wednesday the 3rd of October 2012, the event ,“Rock The Block”, in the lively center of Berlin Kreuzberg, will change the colorful block of houses between Adalbertstr., Skaltizerstr., Mariannenstr., & Oranienstrasse into an impressive experience.
In cooperation with Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, dozens of Berlin artists will provide art venues, performances, workshops and parties, in and outside. The block will be opened to the public in cooperation with the residents and will come alive as a creative organism. An entire cosmos between four streets can be open for strolling. The event will be directed towards a wide audience. Within the framework of different workshops, children and the youth together can redesign billboards on the block. Whoever left too quickly or missed something in the turmoil of the night has two days to play in the cards. Performances and workshops will also keep the block in movement on the 3rd of October. As early as 12 o'clock, there will be the possibility to look at the complete works of art on the block.
